The-Most-Unsuspecting-Aspects

“As designers, we are often busy with mass production of a single creative idea, but to work on a larger-than-life project that would be accessible to the masses is a thrilling idea and very fulfilling to the creative senses of a designer,” says Nimish. The installation was the result of six months of ideating, 35 artisans and three months of execution. As you drive down the busy Peddar Road in Mumbai, the sight of a thousand embroidered hoops immediately overwhelms you, wafting through the mild winter breeze. Also, it is interesting to see how an artist approaches a project and there is so much you can learn from a single concept,” says fashion blogger Pallavi Singh.. The white walls of Jindal House make for a lovely canvas, playing hide-and-seek with these technicolor strings. But it is often missed in the hustle-bustle of our daily lives.
We hope ‘All We Need Is Love’ is able to strike a chord of love, peace Hydrophilic non-woven fabric manufacturers and harmony with everyone who sees it,” says Manish.Interestingly, back in 2015, designer Krsna Mehta had put up an installation titled Vertical Mayhem at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, representing the beauty and chaos of Mumbai. While the mingling of the art and fashion worlds is not a modern concept, the visibility of this crossover is unfortunately rare in the mainstream.“Works of fashion designers are usually categorised for the elite and the exclusive, so having that talent work in a public space gives everyone access to the world of fashion —it’s a breath of fresh air which could inspire, provoke or spark debate. The project is a part of St+art and started when they approached him over a year ago with the idea to collaborate on an inclusive piece of art. As an artist who has often created installations and played with many mediums, I feel that public art brings the art straight to a mass viewer ship.“The inclusive fabric installation aims to evoke emotions of love, harmony and peace, and encourages passers-by to stop and think of all the natural and real beauty in the world.
“We were waiting for the right platform to create art that would touch many lives and evoke positive emotions of love and harmony. Created with yards of cloth, either hand embroidered or printed, close to 2,400 pieces were pieced together to create the finished look.Fashion designer Nimish Shah also believes in the idea of fashion designers collaborating on public art projects. Most importantly, it gets people talking about art and expression.Krsnaa Mehta saysArt is crucial to all our lives and can be found even in the most unsuspecting aspects of the world around us. When the Jindals decided to participate in the Urban Art Festival and allowed us to use their iconic heritage office-cum-residence in Mumbai, we knew we had the best canvas to bring this artwork to life. I want people to stop and ponder when they look at the installation and for that minute, feel pure unadulterated love,” says Manish, who has always thought of himself as an artist and a designer and never limited his creativity. Made with different fabrics from all over India, the hoops are strung together to form a simple message of love by designer Manish Arora.Inspired by his personal life philosophy, ‘All We Need is Love’, the designs interpret the emotion in different forms.Public art, is most often a reflection of society or a projection of the artists’ emotions. It makes people stop, wonder, introspect or just soak the in sight.

Have-Spent-Many-Days

A design by Chinar FarooquiWhat does Injiri represent to you?Injiri represent the best in Indian textiles to me. I work with jamdanis, continuous extra wholesale Hydrophilic non-woven fabric weft techniques, plain weaves and textures.A design by Chinar Farooqui. Is it true you spend hours in the museum for inspiration? Yes by saying "hours in the museum" what it means is looking at the "old" for inspiration.Fashion for me personally means expression of one's idea of beauty. It is said that there is a story behind each of your dress. Indian living traditions of hand-woven textiles are an asset to us and we must celebrate the techniques and preserve the highly skilled crafts.I love Indigos, blacks, tone on tones, and play of colors on kora and whites.
Since the industry of fashion is loud I do not relate to it much. That way Injiri is quite different from mainstream fashion.A design by Chinar FarooquiWhat are the colours and motifs you best like and why?I am drawn to folk imagery and motifs; one can find many such imagery in my hand embroideries.A design by Chinar FarooquiTell us a bit about your brand vision?I would like to continue my search for beauty in textiles and dress. Indian textiles have travelled the world and have been a part of trade since many centuries. The mass market has its pros and cons. Other than spending time in museums I always am looking at the old.Where according to you is the Indian textile industry positioned in the global market now?I think that Indian textile industry has a very important part to play in the global market. What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion is a word I have not understood in its totality or rather have been kind of reluctant to think about. What is your future vision?I would love to be able to create more beautiful textiles for the global market. It is true that in my student days I have spent many days studying old textiles in Victoria and Albert study rooms, Crafts Museum Delhi, Birmingham museum UK, and Calico museum Ahmedabad. Sometimes it is the story of the textile itself which is the story behind the dress. Why the name Injiri? What does it signify?Injiri signifies trade textiles. On the contrary I believe in not so much change. One of my main focuses is the bhujodi weaving which is continuous extra weft technique. In Africa a particular kind of woven checkered textile imported from the Coromandel Coast was called "injiri" meaning "real India". Please elucidate. The simplicity of a rebari embroidery and bandhani motifs draws me to it. It is not the object which is old but the beauty or "rasa" that is generated by the whole act of hand-making a textile. In today’s time there is a general impression of Indian textiles being cheap, I find that very disturbing.

They-Spoke-In-English

You’ll also notice many stores selling religious paraphernalia like statues and pictures of Indian deities. For an Indian traveller— one who is steeped into Bollywood movies, loves desi stuff like paan or mithais, this is the place to be. The intensity of such devotion is in no way any less than that of their counterparts in India. While most Sikhs are based disposable nonwoven isolation gown in Bangkok, there are also some enclaves in Pattaya, Phuket, Hatyai, Ubo, Udorn, Pattani, Chang Mi and Chiang Rai.A retailer outlet displaying sarees on Phahurat roadAround 70 per cent of Sikhs in the country have Thai names and speak the Thai language. The golden-domed Sri Guru Singh Sabha temple is a landmark of Phahurat. These Thai Sikhs were not very fluent in English, and even when they spoke in English they had the same Thai accent. However, when they spoke to others in India, they did speak in Hindi, but with a peculiar Thai accent.
A kirtan in progress in the gurdwara. The writer is a social and cultural activist based in Kolkata and a frequent international traveller. It felt really strange to see a group of Sikh men and women speak in Thai among themselves, and also Hindi with a Thai accent.Younger generations of Sikhs living in Thailand are adopting Thai names along with their existing names for the sake of their national identity. By 1911, many Sikh families had settled in Thailand. For example, a lady by the name Devinder Kaur Rajni would perhaps be called Rachnee. I think one of the reasons for this could be the presence of such a large number of Indians and, of course, the short distance from India. So if you are in Bangkok, do go to Phahurat to soak in the culture of local Sikhs — you can listen to their shabad kirtan and eat at their langar at the gurdwara, where you find local Sikh men and women working with such devotion. If one is looking for fabrics, however, Phahurat is definitely a place not to be missed. Bangkok was the centre of the migrant Sikhs.
And even if one is not too seriously looking for fabrics, it is still a great adventure to visit the Phahurat Fabrics Market. For the average traveller, shopping in Phahurat many not be very exciting. I heard them talk among themselves in Thai, and was quite astonished. In 1913, with the number of Sikhs in Bangkok continuing to rise, a new, larger wooden house was taken on a long-term lease near Phahurat. There are said to be more than 70,000 Sikhs in Thailand, most of whom stay in Bangkok. The area that would become Phahurat was initially an enclave of Vietnamese immigrants who came to Siam during the reign of King Taksin (1768-1782).Even Sikh women have adopted Thai names for the sake of convenience.
This old market is a labyrinth of narrow lanes, barely wide enough for two people to pass each other. Many of today’s Phahurat residents are of South Asian descent. The market has managed to keep its unique identity and character ever since it was founded. Today Bahurada is commonly spelled as Phahurat, or Pahurat. Besides fabrics, Phahurat is also an excellent place for buying accessories, such as bracelets, trinkets and sandals.I once met a group of Thai Sikhs back home in India whose children study in Indian schools. One feels very comfortable in this foreign land. The first task is to actually find it — it seems to be carefully hidden and you need to walk through a couple of other stores to get into it.

In-The-Latter-Incident

While various investigations haven’t been able to pinpoint the truth just yet, instances of this mysterious ‘hair-chopper’ on the prowl seem to have caused mass hysteria across India.”. And they’re likely to believe in something like this. She lists the 2001 Monkeyman incident as something that was born out of this group hysteria. It’s contributing to this phenomeno,” she says. It’s mostly done by people who have sound minds but have malicious intent. As many as 90 such bizarre cases have been reported China Disposable Pillow Cover suppliers across the country since June. Instead, they would rather believe a rumour instead of being rational.”Priyanka opines that in the case of braid-chopping, the victims have been women, who have been under constant domestic stress. Here in the city, one instance speaks about a woman, who was reportedly combing her tresses, when she experienced a headache.
Adds Kinjal, “People will never want to find out what’s actually happening. After a spate of such instances in the Northern part of the country, Mumbai has seen three different braid-chopping cases now. Also known as collective or group hysteria, it occurs when a large number of people, thanks to fear or rumours, experience a collective illusion.”Counselling psychologist Kinjal Pandya explains that in a country like India, when it comes to creating this mass hysteria, fear is the main ingredient.Imagine waking up one fine morning to a chunk of your hair, ruthlessly chopped off, and lying on the floor.“We all have a way of identifying what other people are going through and believe what they believe,” offers Priyanka Mahajan, psychiatrist at Masina Hospital, as an explanation.
It would seem like this phenomenon is spreading through the country, with women from states like Gujarat and Rajasthan too reporting cases of their hair being cut off with them being unaware of it.In the latter incident, residents of Delhi had complained of a monkey-like man, who allegedly terrorised, bit and scratched people before eventually disappearing. “This case isn’t about the mentally disturbed. When it spreads like it has now, we call it mass hysteria. After a subsequent blackout, she woke up to realise her hair had been cut.
She says, “Most times, these women are in a state of dissociation. These are mostly women from lower income backgrounds, with minds that are more malleable. “When you take part in unnatural or frenzied actions due to a press from your subconscious, it’s called hysteria. The rumours ended up being so close to the truth, that two men in the capital even died as they tried to escape the creature. “In our society, fear is very much a part of our social fabric.”Consultant psychiatrist Dr Hozefa Bhinderawala adds that more than superstition, such cases can be blamed on to people with malicious intent. What these women are doing is chopping off their own hair — consciously or subconsciously unaware of it — perhaps in their sleep

Respect-To-The-Skill-Set

Sandip Soparrkar is a well known Ballroom dancer and a Bollywood choreographer who has been honoured with two National Achievement Award and one National Excellence Award by the Govt of India. You have trained in rope and mallkhamb which is a traditional forms then, what made you take up silk?Well, yes! I have been training in Mallakhamb since the age of 5. And then, due to personal reasons, I got an opportunity to visit USA, for a duration of 3 months. Hence, when I begin to train in silk I had to relearn everything.Rope and silk being similar what is more difficult and challenging out of the two?Yes, it is similar with respect to the skill set required, but very different in terms of the sport.Aerial Silk, also known as tissue or fabric is one of the newest, yet most awe inspiring and versatile art form.comend-ofTags: aerial silk, smilly suri.Since childhood, I had a goal of achieving the Shiv Chatrapti Award which non woven hospital curtains is the highest level of state level Award given by Maharashtra government.
The variety of moves, drops, wraps, twists and turns are practically endless and create an ever-intriguing challenge. Since then, there was no looking back. And since then my journey began to achieve it.She does have a few international performances under her belt in addition to being a winner of 20 Gold, 15 Silver and 10 Bronze Medals in District, State and National level Championship with the most prestigious state level award, Shri Shiva Chatrapati Award in her cabinet all at the age of 21. Her thirst for learning and further improvising on her skills took her to San Francisco to further evolve as an Aerial Silk instructor. Having learnt ‘Rope’ from the age of 5 under the guidance of the respected guru, none other than her father Uday Vishwanath Deshpande while taking inspiration from her mother’s artistic background, Aditi passionately pursued her career in the field of Aerial Arts. Mallakhamb also gave me lovely experiences to travel the world and teach students abroad. However, after reaching my goal of receiving the Chatrapati award, I needed something else to motivate and energize me. It is performed without a harness and one needs to rely on his/her own strength and skill. She has also trained Bollywood Diva the sensational Sushmita Sen, Smilly Suri and many more.
It gives a completely different adrenaline rush as you are performing all the moments in the air and against gravity. I played almost 10 district, state and national championships and achieved numerous Gold, silver and bronze medals. Speed is of key importance. I enrolled and trained for 3 months and found my new passion which is similar to what I always did. I even tried my hand at working in a bank but was not satisfied as I am not suited to a desk job of 9-5.The championship was organised by the affable Aditi Deshpande. Recently, I was invited to judge an Aerial silk championship, at first I was hesitant to give my nod for it because I was not sure what a Latin and Ballroom like me would do as a jury for Aerial silk competition, but on insistence of my dear friend actress Smilly Suri, I agreed for the same and I am glad and thankful to Smilly for persuading me go say a yes for the same, because it was an evening that has left some wonderful memories in my heart.Aerial Silk, also known as tissue or fabric is one of the newest, yet most awe inspiring and versatile art form. Nothing was challenging or exciting me.

The gesture is returned in a similar fashion, besides gifting jewellery and other ornaments to the girl either as part of formal engagement. Hence when the girl appears for the thap, she has already accepted him as her groom and only waits for the boy or his family to express their acceptance of the match. Even the boy’s parents, brothers and sister, aunts, uncles and other close relations figure in the beneficiaries list. The main reason for meeting outside is that if the boy does not approve of the girl the two can separate easily rather than meet up at home.A Kashmiri bride is flanked by her parents ahead of her rukhsati (when the bride moves in with her huband in his house). economy is based on agriculture, horticulture, handicrafts and tourism.
As Islam does not approve of it, religiously conscious people do not accept any gifts from the girl’s side, but give her gifts beside mehr (an amount approved by the Muslim law) at the time of nikaah.Nikaah (where for all religious and practical purposes the couple is married to each other) and rukhsati (when the bride moves in with her fiancé in his house) follow. Wazwaan is something which does not sidestep the menu at the Hindu weddings either. It is now the turn of the girl’s side to send Wazwan, the rich Kashmiri cuisine, fresh and dry fruits and pastry and other expensive bakery items to the boy’s house. In villages, however, post-harvest time is considered ideal for nuptials for a variety of reasons. (Photo: H.Manzium yoar or manzium yarin play a pivotal role in prearranging such encounters and overall wedding indenture.
Normally restricted to occasions of celebrations at homes, the wazwaan experience includes table settings for groups of four on the floor where choice dish after dish such as methi, tabakhmaaz, roganjosh, rista, variety of Kebabs and vegetables, gushtaba, is served, each aromatic with herbs and the fresh produce of the region. This peaceful and pastoral existence is emulated vibrantly in the folk music, festivals, dances, which celebrate harvest, births, festivals, religious occasions China Disposable Pillow Cover suppliers and, of course, marriages. In fact, wazwaan is not a simple meal, but a ceremony itself. Then comes the turn of the boy to receive gifts called hazri which includes jewellery, expensive fabric, cosmetics, perfumes and usually also a copy of Quran and prayer mat.Kashmiri Pandit (Hindu) weddings are not fully in conformity with marriages in Muslim families, but there are certain traditions, which are common to both.

But the civic body has been dragging its feet to take action under pressure from a particular community,” he added.
The Maharashtra government’s shortlived decision to ban beef attracted strong condemnation from all quarters across the nation. A resolution to this effect was also passed in the BMC general body meeting. The Supreme Court has also accepted the demand to issue ban on sale of meat during Paryushan. The year saw two controversial bans — one of beef, and another, temporary one, of all kinds of meat. In the BMC too, all other parties including its ally Shiv Sena, ganged up against the BJP and managed to bring down the meat ban to just two days. However, it was not the first time the BMC had tried to impose the meat ban during Paryushan.Atulkumar Shah from Shri Vardhaman Parivar, an organisation that has been fighting for the beef ban, slammed the move.end-of.
Dr Kaleem Pathan, general manager of Deonar abattoir, admitted there has been drastic reduction in the arrival of horned animals to the slaughter house due to the beef ban.
While they have been occupied by Gujarati and Marwari people, many of whom follow Jainism and vegetarianism, there has been palpable discontent among other communities, particularly the Maharashtrians and Muslims, upon efforts to thrust their likes and dislikes on them.
